Durante unha batalla na vila gala, a pócema que dá forza sobre humana a Astérix e Obélix se esgota. Antes que Panorámix poida preparar outra, é capturado e os dous amigos son enviados para salvalo. Eles terminan na América, onde os indios, que xa tiñan a Panorámix preso, capturan a Astérix. O feiticeiro da tribu quere, de qcalquera xeito, a fórmula da pócema e o druída emprega todos os artificios para protexer o seu segredo. Cando os tres galos finalmente conseguen fuxir dos indios e retornar para casa, comeza outra misión: ceibar o pobo gales do emperador Xulio César.
