Oficiálne má svojrázny seržant Ernest G. Bilko (Steve Martin) vo vojenskej pevnosti Fort Baxter na starosti všetok vozový park. Neoficiálne si však medzičasom z celého vojenského priestoru urobil naozaj lukratívny obchod – počínajúc hazardnými hrami a nie práve legálnym prenájmom zverených automobilov končiac! Tento vcelku slušne rozbehnutý biznis sa však ocitne vo vážnom ohrození, keď do pevnosti dorazí jeho dávny nepriateľ, major Colin Thorn (Phil Hartman), ktorý sa pod zámienkou plánovanej inšpekcie plánuje Bilkovi pomstiť za všetky minulú príkoria a krivdy. A to znamená nielen zničiť jeho podnikanie, ale ešte mu aj prebrať dlhoročnú snúbenicu Ritu (Glenne Headly)! Nečudo, že Bilkovi dôjde trpezlivosť a Thornovi vyhlási vojnu!
