Tretia časť päťdielnej série o planéte opíc rozpráva o troch opičích vedcoch, ktorí utečú pred nukleárnym výbuchom tak, že s kozmickou loďou preletia časopriestorom na Zem do 20. storočia. Najprv sa stanú senzáciou. Potom sa však stanú nepohodlnými, pretože prorokujú, že civilizácia bude zničená atómovými zbraňami a ovládnutá inteligentnými opicami. Alegorická satira, za ktorej opičie kostýmy dostal John Chamers Oscara, poukazuje na neľudské jednanie ľudí.
