De beroemde generaal George S. Patton raakt op vrij hoge leeftijd ernstig gewond in een auto-ongeval. In deze film herneemt acteur George C. Scott de rol van generaal Patton, die hem in 1970 een oscar opleverde. Hij vertolkt een kwetsbare, gebroken man die op het einde van zijn leven nooit de erkenning kreeg waar hij nochtans zo op hoopte. Want zijn rol in twee Wereldoorlogen viel nauwelijks te overschatten...
