Het is kerstavond in Helsinki. De jonge taxichauffeur Samu probeert samen met zijn verloofde en baby te ontsnappen aan een familie kerstmis. Op het vliegveld pikt Samu een fascinerende klant op: een Finse huurling Hans, die na een afwezigheid van twintig jaar is teruggekeerd naar Helsinki. Hans huurt Samu in om met hem op missie te gaan: op zoek naar Laura, de dochter van zijn onlangs overleden beste vriend en wapenbroeder. De zoektocht naar Laura leidt de mannen door de winterse stad, naar plaatsen en mensen uit Hans' verleden. Terwijl Samu ziet hoe Hans zijn verleden confronteert, begint hij zijn ogen te openen voor zijn eigen toekomst. Wanneer de veelbewogen missie ten einde loopt, verandert het leven van beide mannen voor altijd.
