10살 때 다정했던 아버지가 갑자기 사라진 후 버림받았다는 상처를 안고 살아가는 유도 강사 앨리스는 최근에 사귄 남자친구 잭을 집으로 초대해 엄마에게 소개한다. 앨리스는 저녁 식사 후 잭이 갑작스럽게 반지를 내밀며 프러포즈를 하자 당황하며 거절한 뒤, 반지를 두고 간 잭을 쫓아가다 거울 속으로 빨려 들어가 이상한 나라에 도착한다. 동화 속의 이상한 나라와는 한참 다른 어딘가 음침한 그곳에서 앨리스는 잭이 준 반지가 심상치 않은 보물임을 알게 되고, 잭을 찾아 집으로 돌아가려는 앨리스는 상상을 초월하는 갖가지 모험을 하게 되는데...
