Hatsuki è una studentessa delle superiori che vive con sua sorella, Hatsumi, per la quale ha una grande cotta. Il giorno del sedicesimo compleanno di Hatsumi, viene improvvisamente circondata da una luce verde e scompare davanti a Hatsuki. Riesce a seguire Hatsumi con l'aiuto di un essere che assomiglia a un pulcino grasso (letteralmente), finendo in un posto chiamato "The Great Library", che è pieno di mondi diversi immagazzinati nei libri. Hatsumi non c'era, però, quindi la ricerca del grande amore di Hatsuki inizia e coinvolge il viaggio di libro in libro.
