Mametchi et ses amis sont ravis de l'arrivée d'une bibliothèque itinérante à leur école. Ils découvrent des livres d'images magiques créés par les propriétaires de la bibliothèque, la famille Otogitchi, et sont étonnés de découvrir qu'ils peuvent entrer dans chaque histoire et dans la peau du héros. Inspiré par le bonheur que lui procurent ces livres d'images, Mametchi crée Hapihapitchi, un Tamagotchi qui peut collecter le bonheur des gens heureux et l'utiliser pour égayer les gens malheureux. Mais une personne résiste au pouvoir de Hapihapitchi, c'est Kikitchi, le nouveau camarade de Mametchi.
