Μονίμως μεθυσμένη και γυρνώντας από κρεβάτι σε κρεβάτι, η ανεύθυνη Μάγκι εκδιώκεται μια μέρα από το σπίτι του πατέρα της και βρίσκει καταφύγιο στο διαμέρισμα της αδελφής της Ρόουζ, που αποτελεί το άκρο αντίθετό της. Ικανή, συνεπής δικηγόρος, η Ρόουζ πάσχει ωστόσο από σύνδρομο κατωτερότητας λόγω της εμφάνισής της, και η μοναδική ‘τρέλα’ της είναι να αγοράζει διαρκώς ωραία παπούτσια. Όταν η άσκεφτη Μάγκι δεν διστάζει να πλαγιάσει με τον αγαπημένο της αδελφής της, είναι η σειρά της εξοργισμένης Ρόουζ να τη διώξει απ’ το σπίτι. Μην έχοντας πού αλλού να πάει, η Μάγκι αποφασίζει να αναζητήσει τα ίχνη της γιαγιάς της Έλα Χιρς, η οποία διαμένει πλέον σ’ ένα συγκρότημα συνταξιούχων, στην ηλιόλουστη Φλόριντα...
